BEYOND FESTIVAL
Being Shakespeare

B-Shx-175 Seven Stages Shakespeare Company presents the first U.S. production of the highly praised new play by pre-eminent Shakespearean scholar, Jonathan Bate.

This inventive work draws from Shakespeare’s plays and sonnets to further understand just who “the soul of his age” was (and what that age looked like.)

Acclaimed actor Joel Colodner brings to life an aging Lear, a cryptic Ophelia, Hamlet torn between revenge and doubt, ambitious Macbeth, flawless Henry V – all in the quest to get closer to the man moving the quill.

“A memorably multidimensional picture of Shakespeare, steeped in scholarship and love.”
– The Guardian

Joel Colodner appeared on Broadway in A Memory of Two Mondays and They Knew What They Wanted. Off Broadway he played Uncle Peck in How I Learned to Drive. Regional credits include roles at the Guthrie Theater, Long Wharf Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, Arena Stage, Hartford Stage, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Santa Fe Theatre Festival. In Boston, he has appeared with the Lyric Stage Company, SpeakEasy Stage Company, New Repertory Theatre, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, and Actors’ Shakespeare Project. He has guest starred on “LA Law,” “Moonlighting,” “Remington Steele,” “St. Elsewhere,” “Cagney and Lacey,” “21 Jump Street,” and in many made-for-television movies.
