Sumner McKane’s striking documentary film, In The Blood, takes us into the Maine woods to experience for ourselves the lives of the lumbermen and river drivers of the past.
By weaving together archival film footage and photographs with oral histories told by the men themselves, this film brings us into the world of these rugged pioneers: the logging camps, haul roads, rivers, and lakes.
In The Blood explores the character, strength, ethics, and grit of these legendary Maine men. A unique feature of this virtual journey into the 19th century is the musical soundtrack, which is performed live by filmmaker and composer Sumner McKane and bassist Joshua Robbins.
“An outstanding blend of history, economics, geography, and live performance!”
“An engaging narrative . . . compelling music . . .”
