In 2010 Artists’ Collaborative Theatre began presenting special theatre events at the West End Studio Theatre (WEST). These events have provided ACT ONE the opportunity to present readings of established works, such as A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters (2011) and Ancestral Voices (2014), and new works by local playwrights, such as Lester Dubow’s Look…There’s A Boat (2015).
Special Event performaces have also allowed ACT ONE to
focus on matters of local importance, from celebrating our region’s rich cultural history with Celia Thaxter & the Isles of Shoals (2010) to exploring critical social issues such as sexual assault with Joanna Rush’s one-woman production, Asking For It (2012), and blast-induced Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in the military with Kate Wenner’s powerful play, Make Sure It’s Me (2013).
In June 2017 Artists’ Collaborative Theatre premiered Caroline Wood’s moving and wise story-told-in-letters, The Immigrant Garden. This stunning work became an immediate audience favorite and was reprised in September-October 2017 and again in August 2018. The production also led to the publication of a second edition of Wood’s beautiful novel!
